Canon Info
Canon Name: Jeanne "Jeannette" d'Arc
Canon Age: 17 (dies at 19, but I'm pulling from when there's less at stake)
Canon: Senki Zesshou Symphogear XDU (mobile game)
Character Summary: Jeannette is a one-off antagonist in the Senki Zesshou Symphogear mobile game, Symphogear XDU. She's Literally Joan Of Arc - a girl from the village of Domrémy in France who becomes a military commander, leads her country to success against all odds, but is then sold to her enemies to be burned at the stake as a heretic. Symphogear keeps this basic story, but where the historical Joan of Arc went to war because she believed saints were telling her she had a mission from God, Jeannette goes because she wants to protect her village. Assuming full responsibility for her choice, she even accepts her death at the stake; she thinks it's fair that she die after giving orders on the battlefield that led soldiers on both sides to be killed.
In the place of historical Joan's "saints" and voices, Jeannette has Saint-Germain, an immortal alchemist from the main Symphogear story who saves Jeannette's life when Jeannette is 12. Jeannette, upon witnessing Saint-Germain's power, decides this person must be an "angel". They become friends, meeting often on a hill overlooking Domremy. Jeannette admires and adores "her lady Angel", and it's upon hearing from Saint-Germain that 1) France is losing the war 2) Jeannette has the ability to inspire troops and make a difference that Jeannette chooses to take up the sword, becoming known throughout Europe as "Jeanne d'Arc". She and Saint-Germain promise that when Jeannette returns from the war, she will become Saint-Germain's squire, and they will spend eternity together.
Being burned at the stake obviously puts a wrench in these plans.
The actual event in which Jeannette appears is straight-up Symphogear Does Orleans From F/GO, But Makes It Gay: Gilles de Rais resurrects Jeannette as the "Jeanne d'Arc he desires", ie, one who he can brainwash into caring only about him and whose holy powers he intends to use to rid the world of anybody he doesn't like. Jeannette and Saint-Germain's combined lesbian angst over each other is strong enough to break the brainwashing, however, and Jeannette sacrifices herself to save the canon characters from Gilles. The "true Jeannette", according to Saint-Germain, is someone with "a heart as beautiful as a jewel", who knows the weight of her actions and who "is always thinking of everyone". She's a saint, and it shows, but she's still very much a normal girl - a little pert, very innocent, a frequent crier, and head-over-heels in love.

AU History:
ABOUT JEANNETTE
🕊️ DOB 01/06/2006
🕊️ High school 2nd year - had formerly attended a Catholic girls' school but has enrolled in Promised Morning starting this spring.
🕊️ Very Catholic but also very accepting of other faiths, since she's 1) a religious minority in this country 2) a respectful, sweet, and good girl. She prays to God first and foremost but sees no reason why God can't live in harmony with kami, etc. God is just the big man in charge.
🕊️ Math and PE are her best subjects (though she hates having to show her work on math problems.) Language arts is her weakness; she is shit at kanji. They just slide off her brain.
🕊️ In the fencing club, specializing in saber.
🕊️ Bikes everywhere; doesn't own a smartphone, since her flip phone still calls and texts just fine.
🕊️ During vacations from school sometimes her family goes into the country and Jeannette gets to ride horses. Jeannette is a horse girl.
🕊️ Interests: Angel-sama, God (she loves! church bells! and going to Mass! and attending Confession!), Domremy Apartments, family, greenery and fresh air/gardening, needlework crafts.
🕊️ Also fond of nice clothes, though curtailed by her allowance/she also donates a lot of her money to the poor....
FAMILY SITUATION
🕊️ Youngest child of Jacques and Inori d'Arc (nee Junrei Inori), who own, maintain, and live in the Domremy Apartments in Yumemigaoka.
🕊️ Jacques and Inori met when Inori studied religion abroad in Europe. He decided to move to Japan with her but maintains close ties to the d'Arcs in France.
🕊️ Siblings: An older brother, Juntarou (Jun), and a younger brother, Pierre. Jun is an adult married to his childhood friend; they have their own place elsewhere in Yumemigaoka. Pierre is in middle school and thinks his sister is cringe.
🕊️ Jeannette is penpals with her elder cousin Jeanne, d'arling of the main d'Arc family holdings in France, and calls Jeanne her "big sister".
🕊️ France!Jeanne's ACTUAL little sister (Jeanne Alter) is possibly moving into Domremy Apts, either in her own place or taking Jun's old room. This sister is ALSO NAMED JEANNE.
🕊️ Yes the d'Arc extended family is raising a Jeanneration of girls with the same name. DWBI.
DOMREMY APARTMENTS
🕊️ An apaato (two-story apartment building, 10 units) in Matsuba, owned/supervised by Jacques d'Arc. It's across the street from a small Catholic church and has its own flower/vegetable garden.
🕊️ Looks like this, p much
🕊️ Jacques is the rare landlord who doesn't suck. The place is well-kept and the rates are reasonable.
🕊️ The tenants tend towards the older side, though there's probably one or two families/college kids. PCs are welcome to live in one of these.
🕊️ AU Gilles de Rais lives in this apartments as a NEET named Dorui Jirou. Jeannette has to get on his case about not throwing such loud parties. And do NOT cuss, lest God frown upon your job search! (You....ARE job hunting, yes....?)
🕊️ Jeannette loves the apartments. She helps with the building's upkeep and gets along with everyone in the building. She also intercedes on the tenants' behalf when money is tight for them.
FIVE YEARS AGO: DISASTER, ANGEL-SAMA, AND AWAKENING
🕊️ Five years ago, just prior to Dream Sphere research really kicking up a notch, various stressors spawned first Torments and then a full-fledged Nightmare assault on the tenants of Domremy.
🕊️ One of them, awakening in a panic, accidentally started a fire and a portion of the apartments burned.
🕊️ 12-year-old Jeannette was attacked by the Nightmare and prayed for the safety of everyone else in the apartments, not herself. Hearing her selfless prayer, a wandering rogue Dreamer saved her.
🕊️ The Dreamer fought the Nightmare, and Jeannette longed so badly to be of assistance to her that she managed to poof a Sandglass right then and there. She attacked the Nightmare and then woke up, helping others to evacuate the building.
🕊️ Because of the rogue Dreamer's amazing powers and the fact she came in response to Jeannette's prayer, Jeannette refers to this Dreamer as "Angel-sama".
GAY SEAL UP TO THE PRESENT
🕊️ After this, Jeannette starts visiting the Dream Sphere on the regular. She hangs out there with Angel-sama.
🕊️ They fight Nightmares together, with Angel-sama serving as Jeannette's first unofficial mentor, but they also just chat. (Jeannette has a bad habit of manifesting the Apartments in her dreams surrounded by this absurd rural arcadia, so they look out over them.)
🕊️ Jeannette starts spending more of her waking hours by herself, daydreaming and basically being a pure maiden in love with no idea that's what's going on. She also starts taking fencing lessons.
🕊️ Jacques doesn't know what's going on either, only that his daughter has been sneaking off by herself, and starts to worry she has Discovered Boys. (She has Not.)
🕊️ More and more Torments have been popping up lately around the apartments, and this worries Jeannette. She asks Angel-sama whether the Dreamer Union, in its current state, can protect Domremy Apartments.
🕊️ Angel-sama, who has a mysterious past and hella biases, says basically "lolno". She doesn't think morale is good enough and considers their tactics to be shit.
🕊️ Jeannette asks whether she has what it takes to rally the DU. Angel-sama says yes.
🕊️ Armed with the fact that Her Angel Said So, Jeannette registers with the DU and applies to Promised Morning Academy. Okay, she shows up at the DU HQ and demands to be put in charge of things because an angel said she'd be good at it, but the end result is Jeannette enrolled and Very Eager to Prove Herself.
🕊️ And THEN, when the gears for her becoming a pro Dreamer in the future are already in motion, she tells her parents.
🕊️ Jacques is not thrilled (mostly worried about his girl) but Inori intercedes for her.
🕊️ Jeannette's current goal is to stop Nightmares from infesting Yumemigaoka. But she has a secret wish....that once she knows her beloved home is safe, she can travel with Angel-sama as her angel's squire.......
AU Personality:
Jeannette d'Arc is a saint.
This is a historical fact, but it also sums up her personality. While this Jeanne has never been told by God that only she can save France, she does love her religion far more than the average Japanese Catholic, going into raptures when she prays and taking the Sacraments frequently. She also walks the walk of her religion by loving thy neighbor - she's always thinking about others, behaves humbly and selflessly to a fault, and lives an ultra-pious moral life. As one of those quick thinkers who don't even realize they're thinking, in the blink of an eye, Jeannette will assess a situation, determine the most moral course of action, and act on it. She doesn't sweat the small stuff, and anything that isn't "what is Good" is the small stuff.
This straightforward and virtuous mindset can make her obnoxious. A hater of the sin but never the sinner, she's appalled by petty vice (intoxication, swearing, etc) out of worry that God will punish the perpetrators. She is also so sure of herself that despite her natural modesty ("I am but lowly...") her conviction can make her seem arrogant; what's more, she has such faith in her own judgment that needing to show her work, to explain why she knows what she knows, is a foreign concept. And while she's polite overall, Jeannette has a habit of ignoring differences in social rank if she thinks she knows better than someone "above" her. Everyone is equal in the eyes of God, so Jeannette treats them that way.
Such extreme behavior was exceptional in 1400s France. It's downright weird in 2023 Japan. Jeannette has spent her life more loved by adults (for her virtue and thoughtfulness) than her peers, who consider her an oddball, a goody-two-shoes, and a buzzkill. She has a few friends from her old school and gets along with everyone at Domremy Apartments, whom she looks after almost like a dorm mother. But she's hardly leaving a brilliant social life to enroll in Promised Morning.
Jeannette doesn't mind having few friends her own age, though. She has her Angel. The Dreamer she calls "Angel-sama" fills many roles for her - a mentor, a confidant, an inspiration, her savior, her ideal. Just being with her makes Jeannette happy. What's more, Jeannette's besotted with the person, not a fancy; she loves Angel-sama whether or not the woman's actually from Heaven. She doesn't realize she's IN love with Angel-sama, though.....learning girls can kiss girls will blow her mind.
Despite her penchant for zoning out in a religious/sapphic haze, Jeannette is practical at heart. She speaks and acts matter-of-factly, with no patience for waiting around when it's clear what needs doing. "Go boldly!" may as well be her motto, as may "God helps those who help themselves." She's an inspirational leader who believes that any battle can be won so long as the correct orders are given and each and every Dreamer does their best. But while Jeanne's incisive snap judgments help her plan attacks well, her preferred overall strategy is LEEROY JENKINS - she is here to FIGHT AND WIN, so that's what she'll do. Politics and mean-girl machinations baffle her. Why do people insist on making matters so complicated?
She also - and here she makes a big break from the historical Jeanne, if not XDU Jeanne - accepts full personal responsibility for her actions. Jeannette does not see herself as the messenger of God. When she decides to focus on Dreamer activities, she owns that choice: the people and places she loves are in danger. She has the ability to change that. If she does not, and tragedy strikes, she will regret it forever. Thus, even if Jeannette must someday harm others, or give orders that cause other Dreamers to be harmed, she bears that weight but won't waver. The happiness of knowing she can help her loved ones makes the burden worthwhile.
She wears her heart on her sleeve regardless, though. Jeannette's brain only has room for one emotion at a time, and she feels each to extremes. She's quick to anger but equally quick to apologize, cries at the drop of a hat but dries her tears before long. She's not above being a little pert or sassy if the mood strikes her, either. Expect her to be fierce in battle and weepy afterwards, sad that someone had been in such pain that a Nightmare was created. Life is not boring with Jeannette d'Arc around.
In a word, Jeannette is pure. Pure of heart, pure of intention, ignorant of "worldly" things but with her head screwed on tightly in terms of morals and integrity. She's marching to the beat of her own drummer (or church bell, as the case may be), and doing so boldly, with her chin high and a song of love in her heart for God and the angel He has sent to her. With these, and for the sake of her beloved Domremy Apartments and Yumemigaoka, she fears nothing!
Dreamer Info
Dreamer Title: Dreamer La Pucelle
Appearance: Outfit ref!
Her Sandglass's weapon form is a sword. She can fight with the sword as a bladed weapon or in combination with the powers below.
Archetype: Saver
Power Considerations:
🕊️ Saint's Blessing: Dreamer La Pucelle prays "In the name of Saint Michael the Archangel, Glorious Commander of the Heavenly Armies, may the blessings of war be upon thee", and heals her targets' physical injuries. At higher Ranks this will also buff their attack, defense, and speed, represented in battle by a golden aura around the Dreamer(s) in question.
🕊️ Courage Bataille: Dreamer La Pucelle prays "Let those who prove themselves faithful servants of God have their sins pardoned, have their souls blessed - May this devout prayer reach Thee", and fills her targets with Fighting Spirit. It's basically an injection of warm faith encouraging the target to never give up! At higher Ranks this will also remove/grant immunity to negative status effects and give the target a little angel halo.
🕊️ Redemption Coup: La Pucelle summons magical golden light and fires it by pointing/swinging her sword at an enemy (or enemies). This light can take a variety of forms, but they all look "holy" - a glowing extension of her blade, little projectile doves that fly at and explode against the enemy, hammering enemies with a giant cross, etc.
🕊️ Saint Sanction: La Pucelle conjures a hemisphere of light around her target, protecting them from attacks. The number of targets who get a shield/the shield's strength will increase with Rank, and its shape will slowly shift until by S Rank she's summoning a shield shaped like a whole damn church.
Special Attack: Lumiere Judgment Dream - Dreamer La Pucelle offers a (long) prayer chant to God and lifts her Sandglass high. It emits a powerful holy light that cleanses any enemy within its range of effect that's looking at and touched by the light. "Cleansing" can mean erasing enemies that consist of nothing but negative energy; it can also mean stripping negative influences/powers from others. Starter range of effect I'm thinking is 10 meters and can expand as her abilities increase in Rank.
....for the record, here's the whole chant. She can say it aloud or in her heart, but she has to complete it for the attack to work:
O Celestial who reigns over infallible justice. O its faithful servant and trustee, Archangel Michael -
In Thy right hand is the sword that cleaves the Lord's enemies. In Thy left hand are the scales which weigh the souls of the faithful -
O greatest warrior of God, who led legions of angels and destroyed the enemies of the Almighty -
I pray for manifest judgment that protects us in battle and destroys those who hinder our worship - those who disobey our beloved Father!
